Today, I steered clear of the grocery store and made my way to a home improvement store. It’s so nice to walk among the green leaves and flowers. I must have walked up and down each aisle a few times before I came across some tiny pink flowers. They seemed to be hidden under a platform, like tiny hidden treasures. I bought a few and brought them home. Once at home, I pulled out my gardening tools. I picked up the small hand shovel and prepared to dig into the soil. It took me just a few seconds to quickly put it aside and use my bare hands to push through the soil. I pushed and moved the soil to make space for these tiny pink flowers. Their colors are beautiful swirls and shades of pink. I'm sure that photographs do give them justice. Rich and beautiful colors that seemed to sing out loud like music, music maybe meant for something more beautiful than us. With cupped hands, I pushed deep enough to make space for each of them. Carefully, I pressed the sides of each, pulled them gently from their temporary homes, and coerced the tiny roots from their tightly held positions. One by one, I placed them in the planter, adding fresh nutrient-filled soil to the mix. I sprinkled water over them and took a step back. They are set to grow into something much more beautiful. My hands were covered in dirt today. It reminded me of the beautiful things we sometimes get to grow when we take time to push a little dirt aside.

What a wonderful way to spend the day! The added tie to life was a bonus. (Those beautiful little flowers will seed themselves and grow again next year, multiplied. This adds even more to your metaphor.)

It was so lovely to read this post about gardening. I'm not a gardener, so I enjoyed being able to vicariously plant flowers and feel my hands in the dirt. Your ending line is beautiful!
